Administration Seeks Help from High Court Following Failed Bid to Stop Snap Payment Order
Last Friday, immediately following a US appeals court ruled that the White House needs to completely finance Snap food aid disbursements, the administration turned to the supreme court in a further attempt to block the ruling.
Within hours, the highest court handed down an emergency order provisionally halting complete nutrition assistance funds, which close to 42 million people depend on to buy groceries.
“Legal counsel persist in fighting, continuously, to protect and further the president's priorities,” the top legal officer announced on social media around 9:30pm in Washington.
White House staff had petitioned the US appeals court to overturn a judge's order requiring them to distribute the upcoming full monthly nutritional payments during a US federal government shutdown, and had their request rejected hours later.

The supreme court's order came after the government requested a US appellate court this past Friday to halt a judge’s order that it provide November’s complete food stamp benefits throughout a federal closure.
After that request to halt faced refusal, the government turned to the high court in a further effort to block the directive to completely finance food stamp disbursements.
