Arne Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's natural for questions to be asked about his future after another heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in 12 games, representing the team's worst run after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a tough night at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I've received a lot of backing from above,” the coach remarked.
“It would be nice to change things and get a victory of course but when you're coaching a team and struggling then it's typical that people question you.”
He added, “I accept my position. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Talks with The Board
When asked to provide details on his conversations with the club's leadership, the head coach said:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful for the squad and for me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular discussions I perceive the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat yet so let’s see.”
Familiar Issues and Player Response
Slot highlighted recurring shortcomings from his squad in their European loss, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones said.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't need to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the words.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the club I love. I support them, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a period such as this with outcomes like these.”
Jones finished, “However we still have the crest on our chest. And until it is removed, we’re always going to fight.”
“Our aim is to get this team back to its rightful place, demonstrate to all once more what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
