Martínez Double Keeps Inter in Pursuit of Frontrunners
Inter striker Lautaro Martínez scored a second-half brace to secure his team a 2-0 victory at Pisa, keeping the away side very much engaged in the Serie A championship battle in spite of a less than convincing display.

Under Cristian Chivu, Inter now sit in third position in the standings with 27 points, level with second-placed Roma and only one point behind table-toppers Milan. In contrast, Pisa occupy the third bottom spot with 10 points.

Inter arrived in Tuscany aiming to get back on track after enduring a derby defeat by Milan last weekend, followed by a Champions League defeat at Atlético Madrid. Nonetheless, they were forced to fight throughout by promoted Pisa. The hosts generated numerous chances, but a clinical Inter scored the opener in the 69th minute mark when Argentinian Martínez drilled a one-time shot into the top of the net. The attacker then tapped in from point-blank seven minutes from time.
The team’s capacity to score even with pressure was decisive in securing three points.

Across in Spain, the Basque side staged a thrilling fightback from 2-0 down to level at home against Villarreal, only to lose to a late strike five minutes into added time. The visitors’ scoring came from Ayoze Pérez just after the half-hour mark and Alberto Moleiro in the 57th minute, but Carlos Soler soon pulled one back and Ander Barrenetxea leveled the score three minutes from time. Yet, Moleiro had the last word deep into added time.
In the late Spanish match, Real Madrid travel to Girona requiring a win to return to the summit above Barcelona, who secured a 3-1 triumph over Alavés on the previous day.
