New York Jets Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Incident

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and believes the athlete will recover well after suffering a gunshot wound in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.

Glenn noted that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “positive” during their latest talk.

“That gives me comfort, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His family, they are doing well and he is expected to recover fully.”

Glenn was unsure when Boyd could be discharged the medical facility, where he has been listed as critical but stable.

“Still unsure,” Glenn remarked. “But I will say this, just talking to him, his attitude was encouraging. Furthermore, that’s what gives me comfort, given his positive frame of mind and his words reflect that optimism.”

New York police issued video stills Monday of an individual wanted in the shooting of Boyd. A motive for the shooting is currently under review and officials stated it’s not clear if Boyd was targeted. No other injuries were reported.

The shooting happened just after 2am on Sunday about halfway between MSG and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, 29, was admitted to a local hospital after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, according to authorities. The shooter fled the scene.

Glenn said Boyd has occupied his thinking “a ton” since the news broke. He further stated that Boyd and his wife just had a baby.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he just had a kid,” Glenn remarked. “And I’m thinking about his wife, I’m thinking about his kid and I want to make sure that he’s OK. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“A certain process is underway, that I won’t detail, but It is reassuring that he will recover excellently.”

Boyd was inactive in the present campaign, his first with the Jets, after being placed on injured reserve on 18 August with an injury to his shoulder that required surgery.

He joined the Jets as a new signing in March and was projected as an important component of the team’s updated special teams under Glenn and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. However, he got hurt during preseason drills on early August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd continued to be present all season long while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn stated. “Certainly, he comes to the games all the time. He is completely involved. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, from Texas, began his career with the Vikings after his selection in the later rounds by the Vikings out of the University of Texas in 2019. He joined Arizona in last year and moved to Houston’s squad subsequently. Boyd inked a single-season agreement valued at $1.6 million with the Jets in March.
