The President Welcomes Relatives of Shot National Guard Soldiers to the White House

President Trump announced on the weekend that he has extended an invitation the loved ones of a Guard member tragically killed last week to visit the White House.

He added that he contacted her parents and they were “devastated”.

Details on the Tragic Shooting

Specialist Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a attack on Wednesday in Washington DC.

Her comrade, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Gatherings across West Virginia have been held in their remembrance.

White House Call

The president said he’s proposed a visit to the White House for the parents of both members of the West Virginia National Guard.

“I told them: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a hard experience, come to the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” Trump informed journalists. “And in the same way with him, whether he recovers or not.”

Community Support

Mourners assembled over the past few days at Webster County high school in the state to honor Sarah.

Both they had been fulfilling duties with the military unit as part of Trump’s national effort to assist law enforcement in the capital.

Honoring Beckstrom

“She was the individual that educators hoped for. She carried herself with quiet strength, a warm expression and a positive energy that encouraged those around her,” the principal, the principal of her previous school, told the Associated Press. “She was sweet, compassionate and always ready to support those in need.”

Service arrangements for Beckstrom are still being arranged.

Legal Steps and Policy Changes

Law enforcement have charged a 29-year-old Afghan national with a charge of homicide and two counts of assault with intent to kill while armed.

The event led the administration to pause asylum applications and cease granting entry permits to possessors of Afghan passports.

Status of Wolfe

Andrew Wolfe, a native of the city, began his service in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, according to the news agency.

He continues to receive treatment and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia governor Patrick Morrisey said on television.

The state’s top lawyer Bondi stated on a news show that she also intended to visit his relatives.

Legacy of Beckstrom

Sarah, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County high school in June 2023 and enlisted soon after, working as a military police officer with distinction, per the West Virginia National Guard.

“She had a lot of goodness and she absolutely had courage,” the governor addressed the audience at the service. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has made an impact that’s going to endure.”
